Mud and Mirth Pottery
Science themed pottery by a public health geneticist

Welcome to fun & functional handmade pottery.
A ceramic artist making science-themed pottery that is playful, curious, and sometimes a bit irreverent.
Alongside my studio practice, I am a full-time professor and public health geneticist, and my work in clay grows directly out of how I think about research, evidence, and the human side of science.

My pottery translates complex scientific ideas into approachable, tactile forms.
Light bulbs become vessels for ideas and the joy (and frustration) of trying to understand how the world works.
I use humor and whimsy intentionally, as a way to lower the barrier to science and invite curiosity.

Clay gives me a space where rigor and play can coexist. In both my academic and artistic work, I am interested in how people engage with knowledge: what they notice, what they remember, and what makes ideas feel alive. My ceramics sit at the intersection of research and craft, using everyday objects to spark conversation, reflection, and sometimes just a smile.
